Garden Grown – Fresh Produce from Rusper Gardens

Supporting the shop. Nourishing the village. One courgette at a time.

What is Garden Grown?

Garden Grown is a new community initiative at Rusper Village Stores, offering super-fresh, seasonal fruit, herbs, and vegetables grown right here in Rusper — donated by local gardeners, allotment holders, and green-fingered neighbours.

Each item on our dedicated shelf has been picked in Rusper and shared to support the shop. It’s good, honest food from garden to shelf — and back into the heart of our village.

Look out for the “Garden Grown” shelf in-store and follow the hashtag #PickedinRusper on Instagram to see what’s just come in.

How it Works

  • Local growers donate their excess produce — anything from a punnet of raspberries to a bag of runner beans or a bunch of mint.

  • We sell the produce in the shop at really affordable prices, to make fresh food accessible to all.

  • All proceeds go directly to supporting Rusper Village Stores, a not-for-profit, community-owned business.

There’s no payment for produce — it’s a gift from gardeners to the village, and it helps keep our shop open for everyone.

Why It Matters

Rusper Village Stores is run for the benefit of the community, not profit. But like many rural shops, we’re facing big challenges — rising costs, fewer local suppliers, and supermarket competition.

We’ve launched an SOS – Save Our Shop campaign, and Garden Grown is one of the many ways villagers can help.

When you:

  • Donate a garden glut,

  • Buy something seasonal, or

  • Share what’s on the shelf,
you’re helping us survive — and thrive — together.

Get Involved

Are you a local gardener with extra veg, fruit or herbs?
We’d love your help. Just drop your clean, fresh produce into the shop during opening hours. No packaging needed — we’ll take care of the display.
